Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has criticised the presidential ambition of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, accusing him of pursuing an agenda that could undermine Nigeria’s unity.
Sheriff made the remarks while speaking on a political programme on channels televisions, where he questioned Obi’s commitment to national interests and alleged that his political activities were focused on advancing the interests of a particular section of the country.
According to the former governor, politicians who frequently change political platforms may be driven by personal or regional objectives rather than a commitment to the collective development of Nigeria.
“I told you the last time I was here that people like him will never stay in one political party because he is pursuing an agenda,” Sheriff said.
He argued that any Nigerian seeking the highest political office in the country must demonstrate loyalty to the entire nation and not a particular region or group.
Sheriff further stated that a leader who identifies only with a specific state or section of Nigeria cannot adequately represent the interests of all Nigerians.
The former governor’s comments come amid renewed political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with national unity, governance, security and economic development expected to remain key issues in the political debate.
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party, has consistently maintained that his political movement is focused on improving governance and creating a better future for all Nigerians.
