Tinubu Says Economy on Steady Growth, Seeks Stronger Partnership with Deloitte Africa

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday said Nigeria’s economy is recording steady growth following a series of fiscal and financial reforms implemented by his administration, as he called for deeper collaboration with Deloitte Africa to attract investment, develop skills and create jobs for young Nigerians.

Speaking while receiving a delegation from Deloitte Africa led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ruwayda Redfearn, at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu said the reforms undertaken over the past three years had laid a solid foundation for long-term economic growth despite the initial hardships experienced by Nigerians.

The President acknowledged that the reforms were difficult but insisted they were necessary to reposition the country’s economy.

“Reforms are difficult, but they are yielding results. The economy is making serious foundational progress, and we will continue to implement revenue and tax reforms that stimulate sustainable growth,” Tinubu said.

According to him, the reforms have strengthened Nigeria’s fiscal and revenue systems, improved the financial sector and enhanced the country’s competitiveness in the global economy.

Tinubu also urged Deloitte Africa to expand its contribution to Nigeria’s development by investing in youth empowerment through training, mentorship and employment opportunities.

Recalling his early career in accounting, the President praised Deloitte’s longstanding reputation for professional development and expressed confidence that the firm could help build the capacity of Nigeria’s growing young population.

“I believe Deloitte has a strong training culture, and I encourage the organisation to support Nigeria by equipping our youths with the skills needed for the future economy,” he said.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside Chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, attended the meeting. Officials highlighted the impact of ongoing fiscal, tax and revenue reforms, noting that they were aimed at improving government finances and driving economic expansion.

Redfearn commended the administration’s reform agenda, describing it as a bold step towards economic transformation. She reaffirmed Deloitte’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development through technical expertise, digital transformation and capacity building.

She noted that Deloitte employs more than 500,000 professionals globally, including over 6,000 across Africa, and generated approximately $74 billion in revenue in 2025.

“We are here because we want to serve. Our local and global teams are ready to support your administration as it continues implementing reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s economy,” she said.

Also speaking, Deloitte West Africa Chief Executive Officer, Yomi Olugbenro, said the firm was prepared to deploy its global experience in supporting governments to help Nigeria maximise the benefits of its economic reforms.

He said while significant groundwork had been laid, greater efforts were needed to ensure that the gains from the reforms translated into improved living standards and tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians.

The meeting underscored the administration’s efforts to deepen collaboration with global professional services firms as Nigeria seeks to accelerate economic growth, improve governance and create employment opportunities through private sector partnerships.
